An Edinburgh group of French enthusiasts and expats are marking Bastille Day with a celebration of the Auld Alliance on 11 July 2009.

This ceilidh-with-a-difference aims to honour France and Scotland’s long-standing connection and mark the French Revolution with considerable elan. In a fusion of Scottish and French traditional music, the evening’s festivities will feature renowned French-style accordionist Will Marshall and the dynamic Edinburgh-based Òr Ceilidh Band. There will also be a chance to win prizes with a French flavour, donated by French businesses trading in Edinburgh.

According to Lise Morel of Première Classe, organiser and sponsor of Edimbourg Français: "People in Edinburgh continue to have a strong interest in French culture, whilst many French come to Edinburgh each year to study, work and make the city their home. This event will draw on some of the most authentic aspects of our respective cultures and is an ideal opportunity to demonstrate our shared affection."

The Auld Alliance Ceilidh will take place on 11 July 2009 at the St. Brides Community Centre, 10 Orwell Terrace, Edinburgh EH11 2DZ.
