It’s beautifully shot in perpetual sunshine and superbly scored by Alexandre Desplat (The King’s Speech)\,whomakes fine use of early 1940s period songs to heighten the atmosphere. The talented Comèdie Française actor Denis Podalydès provides a pitch-perfect imitation – he nails everything from the duck-like shuffle to the erratic hand gestures to the gruff speech patterns. The film cuts back and forth between the hours on May 7\, 2007\,which show Sarkozy awaiting the results of an election he was sure to win\, and the years leading up to that moment\,which explain how he got there. Sales Films Distribution    She’s a young Lebanese singer (Darine Hamze) trying to break free from her ex-husband’s influence. Over ten days\, they experience an affair made up of fear and desire\, intrigue and violence. Beirut Hotel is a romance on the edge\, mirroring a country wavering between war and peace\,where at any moment everything could be turned upside down… The lawyer is visited by Abbas (Fadi Abi Samra)\, an acquaintance who helped himout of a difficult situation three years earlier. Now Abbas needs Mathieu to return the favour. He’s got information on Lebanese premier Rafik Hariri’s assassination and wants to sell what he knows to the French government for a visa out. Mathieu finds himself followed by competing security services\, one headed by the singer’s uncle. Arbid who was a French Film Festival guest for her previous film A Lost Man and developed the script as part of a CinéfondationWorkhsop at the Cannes Film Festival\, is adept at portraying the game of loyalties and betrayals that’s become a feature of the country’s political and social landscape. DESCRIPTION:With its reputation for economic stability and neutrality\, it is not surprising that Switzerland remains  a tempting haven for refugees fromAfrica and Eastern Europe. However\, according to a Swiss law passed via referendum\, those without documentation can be abruptly arrested\, held without recourse to a lawyer for up to 24 months and summarily bundled onto a plane back to their country of origin. No warning is necessary\, and there is no appeal. A follow-up to his award-winning The Fortress\, Special Flight finds docu helmer  Fernand Melgar again exploring issues surrounding undocumented immigrants in Switzerland. Melgar maintains a “pure” documentary style with no voiceover\, barely any explanatory titles and no investigation. As a collective portrait of a group of hapless men held in detention with deportation looming\, Special Flight is an affecting work. Rejected asylum seekers and illegal migrants are jailed at the administrative detention centre  Frambois near Geneva. Behind the closed prison doors\, tension builds day by day. On one side there are wardens full of humanist values\, on the other there are men defeated by fear and stress. Relations of friendship and hate\, respect and revolt are formed until the announcement of the deportation\, which is experienced like a stab. DESCRIPTION:Description : Français / English    Un géologue propose de nous faire découvrir la géologie d'Édimbourg lors d'une  randonnée à Holyrood Park :    le Samedi 19 Novembre à 10h00  Durée de la randonnée : 2h30    Arthur’s Seat (la colline la plus haute d’Édimbourg) est un volcan éteint\, qui est entré en éruption il y a 340 millions d’années. A ce moment-là\, l’Écosse était localisée près de l’équateur. Les roches de Holyrood Park nous donnent une bonne idée des conditions qui régnaient dans la région par le passé. Les grès (sables consolidés) se sont formés dans des eaux chaudes peu profondes tandis que les différentes couches de cendres volcaniques et de laves témoignent d’une activité volcanique mélant éruptions explosives et périodes plus calmes. Le volcan a ensuite été érodé ne laissant apparaître aujourd’hui que moins de la moitié de sa hauteur originelle mais nous permettant de marcher en son coeur. Toni\, an Italian immigrant in love with Spanish washerwoman Josefa\, ends up marrying his landlady instead when Josefa is seduced by the local quarry foreman. Jean Renoir's Toni is considered by many to be an early forerunner of Italian neo-realism. In addition to the use of many non-actors\, most scenes are shot either outdoors in the southern French countryside or in local buildings\, and the effect is palpable: one immediately gets the sense of being immersed in this particular niche of early 20th century French immigrant society.         More information here

DESCRIPTION:Antarctica\, where on a good day\, it's -50ºC. Not that the penguins really mind\, they've adapted. But once they turn five\, they more or less give their lives over to continuing the species\, which means 70-mile treks to breeding grounds\, finding a mate\, laying the egg\, somehow keeping it warm against the brutal conditions\, marching back to an ice break to get food\, hiking back to the breeding grounds to feed the little ones\, and fending off predators and the elements in the process. It's an amazing journey\, one that has been captured before on camera\, but never with the depth or beauty that Jacquet and his team manages here.

DESCRIPTION:"Quand le Bd Swingue" - 22nd till the 30th of July (except Sunday 24th)    Comics and jazz music have more in common than you think. The exhibition 'Bulles Jazz Blues\, Quand la BD swingue!' presents an overview of the presence of jazz in the comics of Brussels and Walloon graphic novel artists. In one comic the hero meets jazz greats like Louis Armstrong or Sonny Rollins. In another comic the atmosphere of a jazz club is the backdrop against which the story unfolds. This is a beautiful exhibition which will whet the appetite of the comic strip fan to want to listen to Stan Getz\, Thelonious Monk or other jazz icons\, and prompt the jazz listener to enjoy the art of the comic strip.    Exhibition produced by Wallonie-Bruxelles International.    Presented in association with The University of Edinburgh - Centre de recherches francophones belges.
