SUMMARY:Jazz Fest: "Quand la BD Swingue"
DESCRIPTION:"Quand le Bd Swingue" - 22nd till the 30th of July (except Sunday 24th) Comics and jazz music have more in common than you think. The exhibition 'Bulles Jazz Blues\, Quand la BD swingue!' presents an overview of the presence of jazz in the comics of Brussels and Walloon graphic novel artists. In one comic the hero meets jazz greats like Louis Armstrong or Sonny Rollins. In another comic the atmosphere of a jazz club is the backdrop against which the story unfolds. This is a beautiful exhibition which will whet the appetite of the comic strip fan to want to listen to Stan Getz\, Thelonious Monk or other jazz icons\, and prompt the jazz listener to enjoy the art of the comic strip. Exhibition produced by Wallonie-Bruxelles International. Presented in association with The University of Edinburgh - Centre de recherches francophones belges.

SUMMARY:Impressionists in Winter: Effet de neige
DESCRIPTION:A Talk in French by Agnes Ness @ Institut Français d'Ecosse Impressionist depictions of snowy scenes follow a long tradition of painting landscape in winter from the Limbourg Brothers in the 15th century and Dutch artists of the 17th century. Monet\, Renoir\, Pissarro\, Sisley\, Caillebotte and Gauguin all found inspiration in this subject matter which seems an apt one with which to end the French Institute's Cafe Art series for 2010.

SUMMARY:Impressions de Paris
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition @ Institut Français d'Ecosse "This exhibition is a celebration of a long affaire d’amour with Paris\, concentrating on the small and tranquil rather than the grand and imposing landmarks of the great city. Cafes\, bridges\, trees in their autumn colours\, form the basis of the paintings which were all completed in the studio from a series of sketches\, photographs and many\, many hours of wandering the streets of Paris absorbing the unique sounds\, sights and smells which are unmistakably Paris. The “City of Light” has been a passion and inspiration to many people for many years\, like a magnate for the creative senses. I’m never sad to leave Paris – I know I’ll be back." Douglas Davies -- Paintings by Douglas Davies R.S.W.
