Talk: Monet et les artistes américains à Giverny
May 30, 2012 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm$5 - $8
A talk (in French) on the American artists who gathered around the northern French village of Giverny in the period 1885 to 1914, including Theodore Butler, Theodore Robinson, John Leslie Breck, Lilla Cabot Perry and others.
In 2007 the Columbus Museum of Art, Ohio and the Musée Marmottan, Paris mounted an exhibition entitled ‘In Monet’s Garden, Artists and the Lure of Giverny’. In our Café Art we shall look at those American artists who were ’lured’ to Giverny during the period 1885-1914 and consider just what brought them to this small village north of Paris. We will be talking about artists such as Theodore Butler, who married not one but two of Monet’s step-daughters, Theodore Robinson, John Leslie Breck, Lilla Cabot Perry and many others. We shall also look at the American Museum opened in Giverny in 1992.
Talk in French (advanced level) by Agnès Ness.
