Cine : Jules et Jim
François Truffaut’s iconic tale of a romantic triangle, set in Paris between the end of the Belle Époque and the beginning of the Second World War.
Jules and Jim are young artists who enjoy a devoted friendship – until they meet Catherine, the epitome of la femme fatale. Both men fall head over heels in love with her, but she – capricious, exuberant, independent and narcissistic – is impossible to possess, a fact Jules and Jim cannot accept. Elliptical, witty and radiant, Jules et Jim is one of the finest French films ever made and a highlight of the nouvelle vague. Still giddy on the possibilities of cinema (this was his third film), Truffaut fills the screen with exuberant images and exhilarating editing effects, capturing the vertigo that Jules and Jim experience when they are close to the intoxicating Catherine.
